Blood
It always feel a little apprehensive when watching my blood being drawn out of my arm in a big syringe. That thick, red liquid which until that very moment, had been making its way through my body totally unnoticed by myself. Something which most of us take for granted, and yet without it, I would not be writing this right now. Without a system of transport for the oxygen inhaled by our lungs to be distributed to the millions of cells in our bodies, each working away, performing chemical functions, all to sustain life. Red discs, tumbling through arteries, capillaries.
And there is this wonderous substance now, sitting in a lab, waiting to be analysed with technology that only a century ago, probably didn't exist. Amazing.
