The passing of an age

And so the hour hand moved, slowly but deliberately, inexorably towards the number twelve. A number which signifies a certain passing of time - a delimiter of a quantum, a snippet, in such sense as a moment though longer.

The number, though meaningless bears the weight of a concept - one universally held as important and generally celebrated though not necessarily enjoyed. An idea nevertheless, powerful, moving and yet so inevitable that it still bears surprise and expectation.

The hour hand now seeming to reach out clasp its goal pauses. Physics stops. In that one fraction of a moment, time no longer applies. That time was today. Both concepts, physical and rational intertwined, inseparable, united now to defeat reality.
